My sister is in for christmas from Jax, FL...... She has an 02 explorer and has to have new yires before she can go home..We do not have time to order tires online so count out tirerack and other websites. What would be a good tire to get into for less than about $145 each.... they are 245/65/17's..... expensive size.... all I can find right now are Eldorado Legend Sport Touring tires for $116 ea...

My wifes 2004 Exploder has the BFG Rugged Trail. I think they seem like good tires. Looks like 00blackblazer found them at Sears within your price range.

yeah.. there are 2 sears within 20 minutes of me.... see the explorer has rugged trails on it now (stock tires) the truck only has like 26,000 miles on it and theres seriously like 3/32nds of tread left..... they wore quicker than a set of firestone wilderness ht's I had on a ranger once.... but I have had 2 diff sets of BFG tires and loved em... maybe it was just bad luck with her set??

being a ford its possible that they ran them at the wrong air pressure. i believe those tires have a 44 psi cold rating. most ford suvs recommend i think 32 psi which if someone follows it will underinflate the tires causing them to wear faster.

We have 27,000 miles on my wife's 04 Exploder and they look like new. I can't imagine your sister having worse driving habits that my wife. I would recommend that your sister start flooring it as soon as the light turns green, keep the pedal to the metal until the last second, then hit the brakes firmly. Try not to slow down too much for corners. I think if your sister follows these suggestions she will get improved tire wear, such as my wife as found on her Rugged Trails.

haha... yea... she already drives like that...lol im thinkin maybe the underinflated thing.. but she also has a mustang and got 70,000miles out of her last set of tires on it..... i dunnno...... we may just go with another set of rugged trails.....

dayton timberlines are some good tires. i just got a set on my blazer and ended up paying less then $100 a peice. they are manufactured by bridgestone, just one of their lesser known brands. my boss has had a set on his 2000 chevy 1500 for quite some time now and they still have great tread left.

yea... they are the same company.... and tires for a blazer are normally like 235/75/15's or 225/70/15's... considerably cheaper than a 245/65/17...lol tires for 15 inch rims are cheaper than 17's... rim size goes up and so does price..
