MPG question on tires?
 

Amazingly my blazer had the stock 235/70/15 tires. I swapped to 235/75/15's and did a 1.5inch t-bar crank (still haven't gotten my rear shackles). My gas mileage didn't change! Maybe by .3mpg... Not by my overhead mileage. I figure in the added mileage from the speedo being off everytime I fill up. And I just picked up a 18cu.ft. roof top carrier and did a 270milw round trip and it didn't change my milage much. I'm still averaging 18.8mpg on the interstate at at 68mph.
Now with that being said... My question. I'm wanting to put 31's on my stock rims. I notice if I keep my blazer below 2000rpm my gas mileage doesn't drop off much (it stays at around 18'ish). I'm going on a trip in June to South Carolina. Does anyone on here have a t-bar crank and 31's on stock rims that can give me advice on if it really hurt the mpg's down the highway? I'm going with an all-terrain. Specifically dunlop rover at's(my brother already has a new set in his garage). I've been really surprized that all the stuff I've got on my blazer and the mpg's still seem pretty good yet. But I didn't want to jump off the cliff I'm standing on and finally push it too far and get the 15mpg that my full size truck gets. LOL!
Anyways... What your guy's and gal's thoughts?

I get 14mpg city and just under 17 on the highway with my 98 and its on 30/9.50's so 31's should be about the same

That sounds good too me. I don't mind 1 mpg loss. My blazer has plenty of power to pull itself along. But I'm going to have to research the specific tire my brother in law already bought. I know the weight will play a factor in it also. I think my mastercrafts weight around 30lbs and the ones I took off were around 27lbs. But most 31's i look at weight around 42lbs. That's a big difference! That would especially show mpg loss on any hills I would think. I guess I'm overthinking it LOL! I guess I can get them. And if they hurt my mpg's that bad... Then, I guess I'll have to put the new tires on my fullsize truck.
I'm stuck on what direction to go with my blazer. I've got the grill gaurd, and tail guards. But I'd like to leave my running boards on. So... either t-bar crank+shackles+31's. Or stock height and get some newer 255/55/18 car tires on my rusty 18inch rims. I'm not really liking the saw blade looking stock wheels. Maybe when it gets warmer I can see if they look better painted gloss or flat black.

I'm starting to second guess about 31's fitting my blazer at it's current height. I had a brand new 30x9.5 sitting in my garage that I rolled up against it. And it looks alot bigger than the 235/75's. I don't want to go any higher in the front. And I know it's been beat to death on here... But can someone PM or post pictures of a non ZR2 blazer on 30's and 31's with stock rims and no more than 2" of lift? I've looked at a few going through the garage. But only a couple are on flat ground and straight from the side.
The way it looks to me.... If I put 31's on there now. My blazer wouldn't have much fender gap.

Yea, Nismo. Yours was one of them I was looking at. I might ask my brother in-law if he'll let me mount up one of those 31's and see if it clears. I got about 35pages in in the garage last nite looking at everyone's blazers. LOL! Price might play a factor also. He can get me 235/75/15 firestone destination at's for $75 a tire, or 31x10.5/15 dunlop radial at's for the same price.

My brother had the destination ats on his dodge and hated them. He even had pne lose the tread and put a huge dent in the bed. But it may have been a fluke. I would go 31's for that price though

depends on which tire it is. i had to match a metric with my 2 30x9.5 bfg's and i had to keep rolling different tires up beside the 30's to match them, but eventually found 235's that were within 1/4"

just go to a used tire store and bring a tape measure with you

I also wouldn't mind seeing some pics of trucks with 30's and 31's... just so you know they also make 30x10.50-15 also. and they look better than the 9.50 because they are slighlty wider...
