Painting rims

Hey guys I plan on redoing my rims with some rust oleum. I already know what prep is necessary but I need some opinions. They're current just stock wheels from the factory ugly grey if you ask me. I was thinking of doing black since my blazers black. I think they would look sharper black on black on black.

plasti-dip

^^^I second the plasti-dip idea. did it on my 99 Jimmy and it looks wonderful

Ive been thinking I'm either going to plasti-dip my rims black. or powder coat them black.

Steve-o 02-22-2014 06:05 PM

if you want a gloss id powder coat them

JollyRoger 02-22-2014 06:50 PM

How's the plasti-dip holding up for you guys?

RandyRhoadsFan82 02-22-2014 06:52 PM

Mine is holding up great. no scuffs, scratches or anything in this Wisconsin winter, salty and dirty. I've had mine done for about 3 months now and it seems like they were just painted.
Very easy to do if you like matte finish

I painted the wheels on my pickup 3 years ago when I bought it and they look about the same now. I've done it with, and without tires on the rim. No tire gives a better finished product.

Clean the wheel of any grease or crud. Remove old wheel weights as they hold salt and can rust. Get a scuff pad or steel wool and dip it in soapy water that has a bit of Dawn in it. This will scuff the finish to hold the paint and the dawn will remove and wax or oil on the metal. Make sure the wheel is dry and slap the paint on evenly with a good brush. Let it dry a couple of days and you're done.

he wasn't really asking how to do it >.>

in all honesty though Chrome. or black with chrome lip looks better IMO black on black on black only looks good on vettes novas and chevelles IMO

Great! Thanks for everyone's opinions. Chrome lip does look better. Looking forward to starting.
