question about rims

what's the widest you can go with a rim on a 4x4? i haven't really looked into it too much, but most rims i've seen for them are about 7 1/2 inches wide. i don't want them to stick out from the fenders and look really retarded. so i need some info plz.

RE: question about rims

As far as sticking out past the fenders, you need to be mostly concerned with backspacing rather than width. Your stock rims are 7" wide with 6" of backspacing. You can go with an 8" rim, but most of them come with no more than 5.25" of backspacing.

Check this guide out to see how much more your rims will stick out compared to stock (this is on each side). You can see that if you line up stock, with say, an 8 inch wide wheel with 5 inches of backspacing, your wheels will stick out 2" more on each side.

Thats a pretty cool tool. Nice find/post.

If you want wider rims with 6" of backspacing, find some that fit aFirebird. I have 16x8" onmy '87. The tires stick out some because I have 11.5" wide tires on the wheels.

I have a set of 10 x R15 Rock Crawler rims. They are in good shape They are a set of 5. 4 of the 5 have the center caps and chrome valve stems. For sale if your interested shot me a PM. I also have pics of them on my blazer. They stick out but they look good. But there was a some rubbing when under a really hard turn ina parking lot situation.

I dont really get the whole backspacing thing. The more back spacing you have the more it sticks out? I want to put spacers on mine so it sticks out more. What would I have to do?

The less backspacing, the more it sticks out.
