Sliding in the rain in a 98 blazer
 

Don't know how often this question has been asked on here but I could not find a satisfactory answer and I am very curious sole. I am new to owning a blazer or any car that has rear wheel drive so take that into consideration. My previous vehicles driven fequently (which my parents all owned) are a 97 plymouth grand voyager, a 2001 saturn L200, and a 2007 toyota rav 4. A month after I got my 98 chevy blazer, I slid off the road really bad when it was lightly raining outside and a week later when I was leaving work and completed a left turn and was simply accelerating slowly. I had regular cooper cobra tires and looked with a tread that barely passed the penny test. So I replaced them with brand new "all-season" goodyear wrangler tires and had my alignment done. My question is should I still consider weighting down the back of my truck or should that have solved the majority of my traction problems? Or am I bad driver?

Im going to give ya the benefit of doubt and say it was your tires fault.Now you have them replaced with new treads you should be ok.It had to be better than driving a truck with limited slip rearend.:icon_fryingpan:

Thanks bro...Low tire treads generally cause more problems on blazers?

Im going to say low tire treads on any vehicle in rain you are potentialy asking for something bad to happen.I have low profile 60`s on my Jimmy but havent got to drive it yet.Its still a project in slow progress.

Bad tires = bad traction!! That being said even with the good tires I have with sipping on every tread block I can still put my truck sideways at will even without much throttle on a wet street. So yeah driving does also have something to do with. rwd will act completely different than the fwd you are used to in all weather situations including dry!

Tires that are thin in the skin will hinder traction, period. On that note, you gotta learn your truck and how to handle it as well!
