Snow Chains (redux)
 

A few posts have been made in the past inquiring on this issue (notably https://blazerforum.com/forum/genera...34/snow-37732/ and https://blazerforum.com/forum/tires-...-chains-54354/) with no definitive corroboration on their use. In both threads, there's mention that the manual says never to use them, and the chain manufacturers also strongly advise against their use if it's not specifically indicated that there's enough clearance by the auto maker.

Given that, I'm not likely to put them on, and we don't get a lot of call for chains here in the South. But about once every year or so, we get a little bit of snow and it shuts down the whole city (including a lot of police departments/first responders) and I'd love to be able to put on a set in case I want to help someone out - but obviously not if it tears my brakes or wheelwells up. Does anyone have any direct experience, good or bad?

I don't have 4/AWD, and snow tires don't really make sense for such limited use. Just looking at my out-of-the-box options.

the biggest problem in my opinion is people usually just dont give enough room to stop or are going to fast for the conditions

Chains tend to shake the crap out of your vehicle from what I understand

I have used chains before and hated them,,,and a booger to put on and more of a booger if you have to install them in the snow....man that sucked....now what have used before and have a set for the blazer but haven't had the chance to use them is radial chains. they don't shake the vehicle like link chains do....and chains are not made for 55+ MPH speeds either.

Thanks jkyle and rexazz for your feedback, but I was looking for information on using snow chains specifically on a Blazer. Have either of you (or anyone else) ever used them on the Chevy vehicle? Which kind of chains and how often? Ever have any resulting damage or problems? Thanks for any info.
