Spare tire info...
My spare tire was recently stolen & I'm in the process of replacing it. After calling a few dealerships & salvage yards, it seems that I could have a real tire or a donut. None can give me a solid answer. I have a 2001 4 door, 4X4 LS. Can anyone offer any help in this? Thanks.

RE: Spare tire info...
Unless I've misread your post, I don't see a very clear question. Are you trying to find out what size tire you need for a spare?
To the best of my knowledge, if you have a 4-door truck or a 2-door with the rear tire carrier, you're spare should be a full sized wheel/tire. If you have a 2-door without the rear tire carrier (i.e, the spare is mounted inside the rear cargo area) then your spare will be a limited-use tire (donut). Regardless of what sized tire you had before it was stolen, if I were in your position, I would replace it with an actual full-sized wheel/tire. |
RE: Spare tire info...
I would also invest in a lock set that can be had from a dealer or sometimes on ebay.

RE: Spare tire info...
Put it on your roof (keeps the short theives out), and lock it down (keeps everyone else out):D

RE: Spare tire info...
My 2dr has a full size spare(235-75-15) mounted inside, takes up alot of room though. I plan on doing what WolfPack did when I get a roof rack like his.

RE: Spare tire info...
Remember that these spares could have been replaced at any time by a previous owner.
Matt I thought you were spot on. Inside = donut, outside = fullsize. |

RE: Spare tire info...
Both my '87 (2dr4x4) and '93(4dr4x4) had fullsize spares in the cab. My '00(4dr4x4) has a fullsize under the back. Maybe the difference is 2wheel drive verse 4wdr? As in 2wheel drives get the donut, although I would just get a steel rim from the salvage yard and put on a fullsize tire.
