The best way to lock it (IMO) is to run a steel cable lock through the spokes in the wheel and up over the 'winch' crossmember. It adds an extra step if you ever need to use the spare but that extra step will also help to deter thieves.

I'd look for one that has a combo lock built in and write the combination on the scissor jack or tire iron. That way, you and your wife (or anyone else you let drive it) won't have to keep up with an extra key.

About the only way to lock it is to buy a weatherproof cable lock, and keep the key in the glovebox.

A big flat head screwdriver and 30 seconds and you have yourself a tire - The dealerships around here take them all inside because of theft.

I'm not sure if the s-series trucks have the provisions for such a device, but my Tahoe has a lock cylinder plugging off the tube leading to the hoist.

I believe that GM part number 15785099 is the lock and it gets coded to your key using these instructions (attached) by the dealership.

just make sure if you use a padlock that it is weatherproof. theres so many trucks i see where looking at the spare theres no way its coming off
