Tire Suggestions
 

Hi guys, I have a 2001 Blazer 4 door LT that needs new tires. The tires it has on right now are 235/70/R15. And I was recently given a set of tires that are 265/75/R16, that came off of a Suburban. Would it take a lot of work to get the 265 tires on the Blazer without rubbing? I imagine I need a lift and wheels that are 16x7, but I don't know if that would be worth it. What would you suggest? Get 235/70/R15 replacements? Or try to get the set of 265/75/R16 to fit? Thanks in advance.

The short answer to that question is YES.

Those "Free" tires are 30.5 to 31.0 inches in diameter, compared to the stock 28 inch diameter. They are also about 1.25" wider, and they really need a wider wheel.

The "Free" tires you have will need wheels. 16x8 would be better than 16x7, but adds more challenge for clearance. And you'll need a lift kit of some kind.
What I would do is sell the "free tires" on Craigslist, and use the money from that to get some tires that are easily installed.

I'm lazy, though, and I already have two vehicles with high clearance all terrain (or outright mud) tires, big lifts, 4wd with locking center diffs and limited slip front and rear diffs. Those are my serious off road machines.

My Oldsmoblazer isn't for serious off roading, it's for highway driving and a few well maintained gravel roads and driveways.

If you go with the big tires, don't forget the speedometer/odometer issue. Your actual speed with those wheels/tires will be about 10% faster than what's shown on the speedometer. Officer friendly might not approve of you "doing the speed limit" by your speedometer.
