Tread Depth

So as we know many on-line sites like CL often have some great deals on used tires from individuals that ran them from stock then bought aftermarket rims/tires etc. I'm just curious at what tread depth do you guys walk away from used tires.

I know some tire shops will not mount a used tire unless it has a certain "32nds" depth but not sure what it is really. I almost always buy new tires but occasionally see good deal on used ones.

I realize there are other factors like uneven wear, weatherchecking, etc. Just more curious on a safe tread depth as a common "don't go below this ___number answer.

Thanks,
B

you can go by the lincolns head technique on a penny. it all depends on how much they cost and if you do winter driving. i recently bought new tires due to my old tires being about 35% left were awful in the snow. when summer times comes back around they are going back on the truck. should be able to get another year or so out of them.

also go by the date code too. if they are more then 5 years old i would stay away from them
