Default A/T's getting better traction in Rain???

Would a/t's provide better traction in rain???

We just had a huge rain storm in socal today, and I have some street tires on my ride. And I was getting crappy, crappy traction. Scared the heck outta me on the freeway. Anyways, just asking.

Im getting my a/ts soon neways.

Thanks

they would deffinately help w traction. the tread pattern adds the amounts of tire/road contact... therefor more road friction

Make sure to check the tire to make sure they have a lot of siping in the tread blocks if you want to dissapate water and hold the road better. (Siping is the little vertical slits in the tread blocks.) This is why most mud tires suck on wet roads(not standing water but wet roads) just my 2 cents

both those replies, make sense. Thanks.

Just, my street tires have tons of, I believe "sips". So i dont know why they would get as bad of traction as they did the other day for me???

but once again thanks.
And I'd appreciate more info if anybody has it

as a genreal rule i believe A/T's get worse traction on hard wet surfaces (pavement) i dont know why that is, just remember reading it a few times. also I've experienced a lot of traction loss with my A/T's unless i rock 4auto when trying to speed up a curving hill in rain *see the next line for why*

also, on older/cheaper tires as the rubber hardens up, you will experience worse traction. i believe it is the same in lower cold temps (below freezing) until the tires warm up from friction.

should have some reviews on your specific tire that should show you more of what people ruuning your style have encountered.

on a personal note: I was driving an H3 around today will the BS stock Wranglers RT/S. while they may not be the a/t's (which are also crap) these are the worst tires i have ever been on and that includes my coopers i burned into slicks as a senior in my 70 nova.... they are crap!

Have a look here at the 'wet traction' column of tirerack.com survey of A/T tires.

that graph was alot of help. thanks

The tread on the street tires i have is full and great, but i believe their refurbished tires which makes me nervous, cuz i can see where they added tread to the old tire.

Also the tire is called an El Dorado? says suv.
I have been meaning to google them.

But thanks for all the advice

those Wrangler's were crap 10 years ago, and still are today. hard as hell, which is not what you want in wet/cold conditions.

oops meant "with" not will... but yeah they are trash. the other H3 has dueler a/t 2's and it is a much MUCH "grabbier" feel to it's handeling. still a ghey vehicle, but tires can't fix that
