Whats the the right itres size? Suggestions?
 

Hi all,

Newbie here.
Just got rejected for my state inspection due to tires.
I have a 2002 4x4 4door LS, I thought/know the tire size is 235/70/15, but everytime I search for tires by car make, it always comes up with a tire size of 235/75/15. Why is that???
Does it matter, do 75's cost more than 70's?

Any suggestions for tires? - 90% Daily driver, need decent snow traction (New England), no off foad, but occasional sand/beach and dirt roads.
Was looking at General Grabber HTS and Yoko Geolandar HTS.

It doesnt realy matter,I have 205 60 15`s on mine.I think the reason for the 235`s is because you have a 4wd vehichle and it gives its higher ground clearance underneith.I have seen people with 22`s on them which looks crappy as heck.If you dont need the clearance you can put 225.75 15`s on it.I just happen to have a set of almost brand new 205s and it needed tires so thats what I put on it.

I got rejected because they were too worn...which they were, also for a loose idle rod, and for the high-mount brake light not working :icon_sad:

Any suggestions on a decent set of tires? Right now I'm leaning towards the Yoko Geolanders.

Auh I didnt read the part that you have safety inspections other wise I would have given you a different answer.I didnt know that would would so picky that they would reject your vehicle over the wrong tire size.We dont have any inspections here in Michigan where I live thats why I said earlier it doesnt matter sorry about that.As far as know the middle # on the tire rating has to do with width the 1st # is height.Factory size is 235-/75/R15 so cuse of your states inspection you have to have oem tire size.I dont know much about brands of tires but good luck with whatever you choose.

I've had really good experiences with Cooper tires. Really long tread life in heavy duty conditions (60,000 miles on a Ford Superduty truck that pulls a 16,000lb trailer 1500 miles once a month), and great traction in everything from sand to mud to snow and ice. I have Cooper Zeon LTZ on my Durango and they're awesome. 15,000 miles and they still look almost new. I also liked the BFG AT's I had on my Blazer.

Looks like I'm gonna have to pay for another inspection, since I'm poor and still can't afford tires, but I did get my idle rod fixed.

As to brand, the Firestone Destination A/T is a superb tire for dry, wet, snow, mud, dirt, and ice.


I wonder what the largest size tire one can use on a regular, non-lift, or non-monster; 1999, 2dr., 4x4 Blazer?
