ZR2 tire Question

I recently purchased my 01 ZR2 Blazer and the previous owner put on Kelly Safari ATR's 31X10.5X15, they are about 1 year old.

These tires only measure 29", (not to mention they are the worst tire in water and snow).

From your experience, and before I start calling around to different tire shops: is there a "True" 31 inch tire that is 31 inches?

If not, does anyone run 32X11.50X15's on there stock ZR2 Blazer without fitment problems? I wouldn't mind going a little wider also with the 11.50.

My rear wheel wells measure 34" across and the front measure 33.5 inches across. I want to fill up those gaps with the largest tire without having to modify anything.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure how you are measuring those 31's but they should come out to be 30.7 inches, give or take a small bit. No stated 31" tire is a true 31 inches.

As for fitting 32's, they will come out to 31.7 inches give or take. You can put them on and they will probably fit and look great, BUT they will more than likely rub up front every time you turn or if you flex the suspension a bit. Some have had no problems but most have had minor rubbing.

Keep in mind, if you go to most reputable tire installers they won't install 32X11.5's on your stock rims. The min wheel width from tire manufactures is 4 inches less than the width of the tire. Thus, 7 inch wide wheel have a max of an 11 inch wide tires.

Thanks, great info. Mine measure 29" from edge of tread to edge of tread. No mystery in measuring them. I think they are just the cheapest tires he bought and they are crap. False advertising, lol.

And maybe the 11.50 is a bit much, but I'll go as wide as they let me, hopefully I can find a high quality set of 32 X 11 X15

Agree on the tire size accuracy. I think that's why you here some people getting away with running 31's on non ZR2's with little to no issues while others have all kinds of clearance issues...

Not sure if you're after pavement pounders, AT's, or MT's

I hear good things about the Ridge Grappler that Nitto just released. My Boss has a set on his Silverado and speaks highly of them; good on road characteristics and decent off the pavement.

Probably the best rubber I've ever personally ran were some Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ's, ride great and wear like iron, perform great in the dirt.

I'm currently rocking some Hancook DynaPro MT's, 31/10.5/15, on my non ZR2. A little noisy on the pavement, pretty loud on the highway but hey that's why I have 1800 watts of stereo :D I haven't really put them through too much of a test but what little bit of off the pavement driving I've done with them they performed well. Seem to be wearing well although I've only been running them for 4 or 5 months now. Never took a tape measure to them but I know they fill up the wheel well pretty good lol I think they look proportional to the truck though, especially with the small torsion bar and shackle lift on it.

Believe it or not, I picked these up used. Damn near brand new ;)

That statement is very true after doing some research....can't believe I never realized that before.

Your tires are awesome and along with your wheels look great.

I think I'm going with some BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2's 33 X 10.5 X 15

Actual size is 32.5 inches. Should be a great fit and look, all the reviews are 9's and 10's

So, this isn't my ZR2 but it sure looks like 33's on this with the older S10 15" wheels

The BFG AT's are great tires, my only complaint is their long-term use. As they wear they get noisy, and any BFG that I've ever had seems to dry rot quickly, at least faster than other tires... But I'm also the type of person that swaps tires almost yearly, working at a salvage yard so I always come across different things to try out :D

So I ended up going with a set of BF Goodrich All Terrain KO's. 31X10.50X15's (stock size).
What a difference a new tire makes. Smooth, quiet and filled up the wheel wells very nicely.
