Fuel Gauge

I have a 2005 TB EXT LT. The fuel gauge will not show the correct amount of fuel after or before a fill up. What route should I take to fix the problem?

Thanks

RE: Fuel Gauge

Sounds like your fuel level sending unit is on the way out. You should try some Chevron Techron Fuel System Treatment Plus. Use two 20gal treatment bottles in the first tank to try to dissolve the sulfur off the sending unit. Then follow that up with another 20 gal bottle in the next tank.

If that doesn't work, then you'll have to look into replacing the sender. To remove the tank, see THIS POST. I'll follow up with more detailed instructions on replacing the sender if you need it.

I am having the same problem. One week after the warranty ran out the gauge stopped working properly. When its full it says empty. Randamly while drive it goes up and down. And when a put 50 or so miles on it works for alittle then its back to empty with the light on. I clear the gallons used when i fill up and go off of that. Should i try the system treatment as well or just look into changing the sending unit as you said swartlkk?

Thanks in advance for all the help its been this way for 7 months now! I dont want to go this way for the winter now just in case i go in labor and im out of gas!

I would try the fuel system treatment first. It is worth a try and really easy.
