Suggestion inspired by LOL funny pic thread.

Something that has came to my attention is the popularity of the funny pics thread. It seems to fizzle from time to time but the members who visit it frequently keep it alive.

But the problem with this however is a built in flaw to the thread. As a family based site and organization we try to conduct ourselves as such. But the thing with a site that is comprised of mostly 18 and older male members is that sometimes family value lines are crossed. As in the thread memtioned, it's not only newer members that are being cleaned up after with offensive images. Even senior and veteran members with a few thousand posts that are aware of the rules of the forum are being "cleaned up" afterwards by the Moderators.

My idea for a solution to this that will let the photo thread continue without further disruption or offence to the general public that may find this site while searching is to create a 18+ funny pics thread, or even section of the site. Such a section should'nt be open to the general public, and a member should have to be here for AT LEAST six monthes before being allowed into the 18+ section. Maybe a PM could be sent to them asking if they would like thier status changed to allow them to have access to the section when the predetermined amount of time has passed.

This would allow people to post as they please and not worry of offending the casual passersby or younger members of the forum. Although it would be a 18+ section, this is still a automotive forum, and this section should be monitored. No pornography or graphic racist comments or images should be allowed. As example no "N words" or anything of that nature. Disscussing the diffrences of people and races isn't offencive. But when you say something that was thought of out of anger and is delivered with that intent it isn't appropriate and should'nt be allowed.

I think that this would eliminate alot of the missunderstandings that happen in the current thread and would help alliviate the stress on the mod involved in the new thread. Cause instead of looking for anything that might be or could be offensive, they would only be looking for obviously offensive material. I feel that the vast majoriety of this forum is level headed adults. And could handle a section such as this. Even the family department store K-mart sells music with vulgar language much worse than anything in this entire forum, only to people with ID that are over 17.

I just thought I would pitch this idea to see if others would feel the same and agree and to try and resolve the problems that are happening in this thread. Regardless of how this post impacts the Administration and Moderators. Thank you for your time reading this and I look foreward to a responce.

Well, that wouldn't leave much reason for the new section, would it? If you want an '18+' section, there are plenty of them available on the internet, but none of them are devoted to Chevy Blazers. This site is for those vehicles - not porn, rudeness, or adult humor. Sorry to be blunt, but it just seems so obvious to me. As an Administrator, I would not support the idea.

I figured that, and I respect that. This is a site dedicated to the s series blazers, but the lounge is for topics not related to the blazer. The picture thread and others are not related to the blazer. Most of te images arnt about the blazer and are closer to adult humor. So how could this idea not fit into a area of that sections. Last thing I wanna do is draw negative attention to that section or the threads within. I agree we don't neccesarily need it, I jut saw a couple others kinda joke about getting the thread locked and talking about cleaning up images so as not to offend and thougt about trying to find a solution for this. But it is good the way things are set up now and couldn't agree more with the current layout of the website.

Thanks for reading though. :D Just taking the suggestion of a Mod.

I would not see a problem with having such a section. I don't get offended easily but some do, this just gives an area that we wouldn't have to worry about offending ANYONE. I've been here a number of years although I don't post a whole hell of a lot, I do read most everything on here quite frequently. And this forum has solved many of the problems that I have come across with my blazer since I bought it.

I'm on a few other automotive forums for different vehicles that I have and off the top of my head most if not all have such a section. Most are 18+ it is moderated to a certain extent. Don't get me wrong I enjoy good Adult jokes and some good pictures that would be a little too much for the general population on these forums. We are adults after all. It wouldn't kill me not to have the section but it could be a good addition to here.

Most of the people here are getting to know each other quite well and come back on here to talk to friends and have a good time. Some people on here probably spend more time on here than they do on other websites entirely. Just my opinion.

I don't see that as an "built in flaw", it's something the members introduced.
The very first post says "Try to keep it PG."
It was implied that I wanted to avoid issues of anything considered vulgar.
Sorry to throw you under the bus, but I did give a guideline to follow for the thread. Some members failed to do so. I am one of them, unfortunately.
Also, I don't see why we should have an 18+ section. It won't get used, anyways.

Yeah, that's something that I've been trying to keep from going over the line. But dirty and sexual humor is what I find funny. If what I'm posting is too offensive feel free to just say something and/or remove it.

ImScrewed92 08-14-2010 02:45 AM

Don't sweat it Matt. I know you posted that at the begining of the thread. I've only posted a couple times cause I have a warped sence of humor. Not like a dirty thing just a dark sence of humor I guess.

Originally I was just thinking if there is enough interest something might work. But then agian if you start bending something eventually it will break, even rules and guidelines. Creating such a thread or section might lead to other things that could really stear clear of the original idea of the forum.

Looking back it might not be the best idea. Alot of other forums might have a area like that, but how many of them funtion and maintain activity levels like this one does? BTW Matt what I meant by a built in flaw wasn't that it was something you did. What I meant was that when you put many diffrent people in the same area. What some people like others won't. When you add in what individuals find funny, it can really get uncomfortable. But like you said you did lay out a guideline.

this isn't the first time this 18+ topic has been brought up.

while i would definately be one of the major contributors to that section, Rich is right.

this site was set-up/created for the Blazer enthusiast (that's be us! :)) and is how i came to be a member of this place not too long ago.

while it's great that we can come on here, STS with few fellow members that we've become friends with over time, i think if we start having an "Adult Only" theme room, it eventually will bring down the true intent of the forum. (wow, can't believe i actually sounded so old for once, can ya! :icon_razz:)

don't get me wrong, my humor is nothing but dirty, perverted & dark-but that's just who i am. but when i'm here, i know there is a certain level of behaviour that is expected (and required) of myself, so i adjust accordingly. even though i'm sometimes reminded that i've hit the line, and better not cross it, i take it in stride, since that's what the Mods & Admins are here for, to keep everyone in check.

it's an idea for a new section, but i think after awhile, some of the new (& under age) members would figure out that a simple lie of their birth year, could easily get them into that restricted section-if they lasted the long probation period, like you said.

don't dismiss that last statement, we all know how patient kids can be-when they want! :icon_wink:

How's the saying go, "Great minds think alike"? :icon_teeth: Really though you took what I was thinking and put it into words better than I could. Kinda like the "If you give a mouse a cookie" book. You start with something small, then another and another and it snowballs into something large.

And yes I did just reference a kid's book, lol.

i agree honestly. most of us would like to share 18+ humor, chat, etc with people we are ''friendly'' with hence the people here. not hop around to 7 different forums for 7 different things. but hey every forum has his admin and what he says goes....
