Default Keyless entry Key Fob

When I bought my truck it didnt come with a keyless remote. The previous owner had a alarm system that took the place of the factory remote then decided to tear it out. Hence leaving me with out a key fob. Well my local junk yard has 2 huge buckets of these fobs, but they told me that not just anyone would work with my truck.

They suggested I look at the original. Well I dont have one. LOL The ones I see being sold on ebay dont ask for any sort of # and they can be programed to any truck. If I pick one or 2 of those up can I program it to work with my truck?? Otherwise what options do I have so that I can have keyless entry?

First up are you sure your truck has the factory keyless entry as not all do. Check the decal in the glove box and look for option code AUO which shows it has the keyless entry option.

If it does, get a remote from Ebay for your specific year truck.

Then you'll need to program the remote which depending on the year is done in different manners. There are alot of posts here that outline the remote programming procedures.

Yes it does have the option for the Keyless. The only reason I was looking at the junk yard is because they only want 10 bucks for a Fob. I would rather pay that than the 40 on ebay.

Also what you can do is find the keyless entry module in your truck and get the code number off it. The remotes that will work will have this same number on the case. This way you can look through the yard's remotes to find one that will work.

Got the FCC ID# but the junkyard didnt have any that matched.. My # is ABO1502R Everything I find online ends with a T. Including the ones at the junkyard. How come this # doesnt show up for my 97 Jimmy?

The remote for my 98 Tahoe is FCC #ABO1502T. Don't know the significance of the last letter. Would the yard let you use it to see if it works for you? You can try programming the remote right at the yard with the truck there.

That is the same # on the back of almost 90% of the remotes they had. I didnt think to ask if I could see if it worked.. I may just have to go in there and try that.

Just an FYI on this... The R at the end of the Module stands for Receiver, the T at the end of the Fob stands for Transmitter.

If all other Letters and Numbers match, you're good to go!
