94 Jimmy SLE Mud Toy
#21
We usually have three cars in my driveway including this one now. One is my daily, my 96 Jimmy and one is a backup, a 1996 Oldsmobile Ciera. It's still very much driveable and doesn't look junky. I've also had a 240sx with the front end taken apart sit in my driveway for 3 months with no one batting an eye, so not sure what happened this go around. Either way, with me hopefully moving in the next 6-12 months, I really don't feel like fighting it.
But rest assured the progress will continue once it's moved!

Someone might have complained about it.

i spent my teenage years and 20s with broken down dismantled something or other in my driveway... though usually i always had them pulled in just to keep people from complaining if i had the front end off, i lived right across from a school. just remember when you move to get a garage in a fenced in back yard. i currently have 3 trucks in the backyard and picking up another one soon

Not much progress, as expected. We got the truck dropped off at the sanctuary as I call it, and got it all weather-proofed. I am going to pick up the fresh 355 from the machine shop on Friday however, and most likely take my old rods/pistons and heads to him to see what he can do with them.
So, I'll update with some engine **** on Friday, stay tuned!

Well, I don't have any pictures handy but I did pick up the now 355 and it looks amazing. So much shine in the cylinder walls. Guy also did a fresh grind on my crankshaft and it looks brand new as well. Everything was nicely wrapped in saran wrap and ready to go, but with the truck being an hour and a half away my project has still kind of been put on hold.
But soon we will continue!

Glad to see that you didn't have to give it up due to a serious inconvenience.

So, it's been a really interesting month! Got the 355 freshly bored, cranks all cleaned up, gonna send the rods off to get replaced with 30 over pistons soon, but for now I recently acquired a 1995 Ford F150 5.0 pickup which is now pretty much my daily/tow truck. The 1996 Jimmy I have is most likely going to get put away for a few months until I get ready to source out a 5.7 Vortec to swap in it to replace the 212k+ 4.3 that's inside of it. Once both trucks are ready, I'll most likely continue the build on the 4x4. But until then, here's a pic of my two driveable vehicles together. Lol

Sucks about the city! But can't wait to see the final project

Okay everyone, I'm back! Let me begin by saying it has been an eventful five months. Unfortunately I had to make this new account because I was unable to recover the password on the original account (if an admin could get in contact with me about that, that would be awesome). Firstly, I moved out of the town I was in so no more regulations to butt heads with. Second, I ended up trading in my F150 for a great deal on a fuel efficient 2017 Mazda 3, which is nice since I work about 40 miles one way away from home. Third, progress has come to a screeching halt on my mud toy.
But I'm back to say this isn't the end. Instead of pulling the motor in my Jimmy, buying a front clip to replace the old rusted one that was on there and hoping it all goes smoothly, I've been eyeing this one '92 Jimmy 4x4 that's been on my local Craigslist for awhile now. It was recently reposted at a lower prices asking for offers, so I may go pick it up. So why would I do this, you ask? Well, this Jimmy that I'm looking at runs and drives (allegedly) with no rust and a straight body. However, the interior is shot. As you can see by earlier clean up pictures of my '94 Jimmy, the interior is pretty immaculate on it. So the plan is to ****** this running and driving Jimmy up, taking it up to where the current Jimmy is stored, and doing a frankenstein combination putting the nicer interior in the running and driving one, and also swapping the spare tire carrier onto it as well (gonna need to find a guide on that one).
So yes, it's been a long time and I've been busy, but I'm still eager to spend the rest of the year slowly building a mud toy. May not be a V8 mud toy, but I still have the 355 sitting in storage so there's no telling where that might go in the future. So, all I can say is stay tuned!

So I'm currently stuck, the other 1st gen Jimmy didn't work out after all. I did recently buy my old 1996 Jimmy from it's current owner, and I'm exploring options about having a 305 swapped into it to replace the tired ole 230k miles 4.3 engine.
If we go that way, I'll be closing this thread and starting a new one.
