Honestly it wasnt that bad to do, I did it in my drive way. I happened to bend an electrical connection pin and had issues but all-n-all it was too bad.
I say save yourself the money and do it yourself!

slcblazer you have more patience then the rest of us lol. Ive honestly never done one in a 2nd gen,1st gen is fairly easy once you get the top bolts off the core cover.

The only thing that sucks with doing it on the 2nd gen is the 5 million screws and that the bolts holding on my inner fender well were rusted out and had to be cut out. Other than that it was pretty simple

I was told by a local shop that the dash had to be removed! I've got a 96 4WD and I just spent two weeks removing the 'failing' 4.3 and replacing it with a 4.3 with 71K miles. In my driveway too ;-)

You say you went thru a fender well? Sounds much easier that removing the dash.

Yeah the dash has to be removed cause the whole damn HVAC box has to come out. I went through the fender well but if your swapping engines it was be easier with the engine out cause there are bolts that are by the headers that are such a pain in the *** to get to.
