fixing poor headlights first generation
Hi guys,I have a 1989 s10 blazer with factory headlights and I'm tired of how bad they are. I've tried everything I know to do to get better quality but it doesn't seem to exist for the first generation,or at least not that I can find after 10 plus years of searching! So I'm looking to use head light connectors off another vehicle so I can use the halogen bulbs finally. My only hangup at the moment is figuring out how to do it and still be able to use the dimmer switch properly. Surely I'm not the only one that's attempted this! Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Get yourself these
Dot H6052 6054 7x6 inches Euro Crystal Clear SEALED Beam Conversion Headlights | eBay
and a couple h4 headlight bulbs
and one of these relay harness to pull power directly from the battery (the setup on your truck takes the power through the switch)
2 Headlight H4 Headlamp Light Bulb Ceramic Socket Plugs Relay Wiring Harness Kit | eBay
And you are good to go. h4 bulbs are plug and play but the relay harness will make them brighter.

So do those wiring harnesses connect in to the dimmer switch or do they have to be ran separately? I know you mentioned running from the battery but I'm curious as to how they cut off or dim this way? Also wondering if all the male connections on the h4 bulbs are the same as far as plugging into the harness or do I need a specific bulb for that connection?

If you get the relay harness I have seen people have good luck with the hella 80/100w h4 bulbs. Great brightness with those.
They say for off road use only but I did not have an issue with them when I had them in my first gen, the euro style housings I linked you do provide a really nice cutoff and do not provide a lot of "squirrel finding" light above the vehicle.
You cant run those bulbs without the harness though, You will burn out your switch extremely fast and possibly start your truck on fire.

Thanks man. I've already found some 60watt I'm probably going to try first just for comfort. I've already got a ton of aftermarket electronics running off the battery and it may surprise you to hear that I am in fact still running the same alternator that came on it from the factory! I only really use the headlights during the daylight savings time we're about to be in. I live in the deep country and have hit at least 30 deer combined on my blazer and 87 s10 due to poor headlight quality. Hope this fixes that going forward.
