Ok i have a problem i need help with. Its the push button 4x4, the lever will go from 2wheel to 4 hi without even needing the button pushed down, and 4hi wont engage. If i put it in 4 lo it works fine, but 4 hi wont engage. earlier this year we had to take the 4 wheel shaft off to fix some underneath problems could it be the shaft isnt hooked back up correctly? any wisdom is much appreciated thank you![Icon Hyper](https://blazerforum.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_hyper.gif)

What is the lever you are speaking of? What shaft did you remove?

I think he means the floor shifter with the button on top of the shifter.
Floor shifter = Lever
Floor shifter = Lever

I guess the OP needs to answer some questions. He states he has 'push button 4x4'.

yeah sorry guys i had my girl friend post this while i was at work, bad idea obviously. Yes the floor shifter, for some reason i can just pull it and it goes to 4 hi, the orange light turns on, but it does not engage. A few months back i was testing my 4x4 to see if it worked, and somethin felt like it broke and my car cam to a stop. I'm not sure if it is the acuator or the cable, any ideas anyone? thanks

It sounds like you have a problem inside the front axle. If that is the case, the link in the signature above won't help you. If the light is coming on, chances are, the front axle cable is being pulled which means the vacuum system is intact. There is a switch on the front axle that closes when the cable pulls the required amount.
I am betting your problem lies inside the front axle engagement. THIS THREAD has quite a bit of information about the front axle engagement system as well as pictures which should help you if you need to pull things apart. I would get the front end up in the air, supported on jack stands and manually pull the cable (it should pull 1/2" to 3/4") and lock it in place with a set of vice grips (don't clamp down so much as to deform the cable). You may have to rotate one wheel as you pull on the cable to get it to engage properly. With the transfer case in 4wd, you shouldn't be able to hold one wheel steady and rotate the other. If you can, the engagement is not functioning properly and disassembly will have to take place.
