94 Blazer S10 with push button 4x4.
Ok so I can push the switch on the dash and nothing happens, when I shift in to neutral from park, the 4hi/4lo switch will either flash a few times..or both the 4hi and 4lo lights will stay on. They usually go off when I shift in to reverse or drive.

The only thing that I have found to work is pulling the fuse for the TCCM for a few seconds/minutes and then the switch and 4x4 work as they should by showing 4 hi or lo depending on which selection is made.

A shop in town said transfer case encoder motor and replace the vacuum lines. The lines are bad so I'm thinking of replacing those first and go from there. Anyways... hope that wasn't too much rambling.

Thoughts and or suggestions???

 

The shop is probably right. My 07 sklverado had the exact same iasues, encoder was 180 bucks...

 

Well if resetting the TCCM works for a while then its back then couldnt it be the TCCM..?

 

Well that's kind of the direction I'm leaning towards, I'm just wondering if loss of vaccum do to old lines would affect that?

 

pull the codes from the tccm. this site will tell you how to do that. scroll down the page a ways

if it stored a code it will tell you whats wrong.

also check the transfer case fluid level. its the top plug. 30mm socket to get it off. bring a drain pan. if its over filled it will start pouring out. the inner seal front imput shaft seal in the transfer case usually goes bad on thes trucks. when they do oil from tranny over fills the case 3qts over full. it will get into vacuum lines and destroy them. and will push past the seal inside the encoder motor and fill the electric motor up will tranny oil causeing it to fail. happend to my 93 s10 blazer. pulled the encoder motor off and took the black shield off the electric motor and was filled with transmission oil. there NOT supposed to be filled with oil. got a brand new one and was dry. if you decide to replace the encoder motor take the plastic black housing off the motor itself and see if its filled with oil. and please help me confirm this problem. i think the screws holding the plastic motor housing are t15 torx bits. maby t20.
