85 S10 blazer tranny slipping,brown fluid
Hey guys, I have to rev the motor up really high to get the steed to move. Checked the fluid, its full but brown in color. It has over 200k and dont remember when or if the filter has been changed. Will change the filter and add fluid. Question.. is the tranny toast? What about the fluid in the converter? Dont want to spend a lot on the old girl but I am really fond of her. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time. I use it as a "boat puller" and havent used it all winter.

Sounds like the clutch packs have toasted and time for a rebuild or replacement.

When its any other color than red it generally means the trans is toast. A fluid and filter change won't help at this point. It would be good to replace the converter as well, and be sure to flush out the trans cooler

Well... You guys were right, tranny is toast. I replaced the trans filter, after 9 hrs of wrestling with it lol, filled her up and it didnt help any. I have an '88 s10 blazer my son blew the motor in it but the tranny is good am thinking I will pull both motors / trannys out and put my '85 motor in the '88 both are 2.8. The 88 has been restored and had a blower on the motor. I dont think my ole 85 motor will hold up to that but should do ok as is.
Question: Once I get the radiator out etc will I have to take the grill and front off the body to get the motor/tranny out or will it come out with just the hood off? Never pulled one before. Thanks for your help about the tranny you were right on there but I had to try.
Thanks
Ken

You will probably want to remove the grill if you arent separating the engine and transmission.
