87 S10 Blazer 4x4
My son was driving our s10 Blazer 4x4 (2.8) on freeway today, he said it lurchered like it downshifted, than lost throttle at gas pedal, brakes, and steering after he made it off freway. Somewhere in there the engine shut down, now the starter cranks but won't start. Any ideas where and what to start checking. Thanks,Paul

Yup, first listen for your fuel pump buzzing when you turn the key, if you have a pressure gauge, strap it on too. give us your numbers. No buzzing for a couple seconds when you turn the key? Now you are chasing a fuel problem.
Then you go check for spark, pull a plug boot off and stick a screwdriver with rubber handle into the plug boot and almost ground it to something metal on the engine, then have someone try to start it, do you see a spark going from the screwdriver to the metal??? If no, then you have a spark problem that needs to be chased back. I would try the coil wire to the distributor and see if that sparks when you almost ground it while the engine cranks. If you have *****, then you can put a loose spark plug into the boot and hold it in your closed hand and see if it sparks that way, its like a tazer shot and will really hurt unless you are a toughguy...

Thank's, I heard a couple of clicks by fuel tank when key is turned, it doesn't appear that fuel is comming out of the fuel meter body, i'm going to loosen the fittings tomorrow and check again. I still don't have spark at the coil. A friend thought it was prob the module in the distributor. I replaced the module and the coil had an iffy reading on my ohm meter so I replaced it to, still no spark. I also checked crank and ignition fuses, and they look ok.
