Default '88 s10 4WD

So today i drove my friends '88 2.8l blazer in the snow up a mountain, (lots of fun in that truck) and when i would take it out of 4WD i would shift it into 2WD and the 2WD light would come on but the other light still lit up the the front tires (because the hubs were locked in still) and it wouldnt go out for about 10 minutes sometimes.

So i dont know if thats normal or if it should unlock the hubs right away. or are you supposed to go backwards a few feet to get it to unlock?

I dont know a whole lot about first gens.

oh the truck is automatic and has the floor 4WD shifter

yeah ive had this issue with s10s and k5s alike. you usually have to back up a bit to take the tension off to get them to come out of 4x4 and who knows with the age of that truck, the vacuum switch might be gummed up and moving really slow to disengage also
