Default 89 Blazer 4x4 4.3L - Wont Crank, new starter installed

hey guys i have a 89 blazer 4x4 4.3L, new battery, new starter. Here is what was happening;

- 2 weeks ago after 1+ hour drive i turn the truck off for 5 mins, get back in, it wouldnt crank, so i had a friend get under it and hit the starter while i cranked it, and it fired up.

- So I drive it everyday for a week and everything is good, until it happens again. So same thing i get a buddy under and he is hitting the starter but it wont crank this time, we do this for like 25 mins, and it finally starts.

- So next day i get a new starter, put it in, everything is good. Now just 2 days ago same thing happens after 1+ hour drive. Try to hit the starter again and nothing, its a brand new starter so it should be good! I decide to jump the "signal" wire on the starter, so i get a wire and hook it up to the "signal" wire on the starter and the other end to the battery, it fires up!

So i thought my problems were over, obviously for some reason the signal to the starter was not getting thru from my ignition. So i made a wire under the hood that if it happens again i can just touch the battery and it will fire.

Now last night, the truck wont start again, so i go under the hood and do my trick, i get LOTS of sparks and the exposed wire actually melted! And the truck didnt fire.....

Anyone have ANY ideas what might be happening? Could have i killed the starter by giving the "signal" wire direct 12V from the battery? If that happened then why did the truck fire up like 6 more times normaly after i did that trick. What happens when i turn the key to "start" is my dash lights dim, but i get NO click no noise of any kind...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Jumping your starter "should not" have hurt the starter any. Are you sure the jumper wire you made wasn't melted and grounding to something? Bad starter switch or relay?

Ya im sure the jumper wire i made is good, i made another one, still same thing. And it deffinatly wasnt grounded anywhere. It almost seems like the stock "signal" wire is grounding out somewhere. Where is the starter switch located? The relay is on top of the starter right? Since its new i dont think it would be the problem?

Could be possible that the starter solenoid was bad out of the box. Or the starter hung up on the flywheel and stayed engaged thereby burning up the starter. Hate to say it but I'd pull it and test it.

Pulled the starter out, its good, so is my stock one that was in there so i put that back in.

The problem was, i originally traced the "signal" wire from the starter up into the engine bay, and i just cut into it to expose some wire (i didnt cut the wire in half), and that worked 2 times but i guess i must have burned something (relay?) on the other side of the wire. So now i cut the wire in half and i can jump the starter using the side of the wire that runs to the starter.

I think ill just make a push button in the interior?
