In a way it does say it all. If you joined this when you got it in mar 09 and this is your first post, you been lucky as hell.
But, to solve the problem, whatever it is.. it doesnt really give much of a clue.

I have to pump gas pedal a few time and it finally starts. When it does, it gives the haiti earthquake some competition. Finally when we hit the road, about 2 min later engine turns off and a pain to brake. Engine light comes on too. Very little knowledge about cars, but I can read a book and diagrams. Any suggestion much appreciated.

Aha! That is MUCH better!
Suggests you have a fuel system problem .. start with changing the fuel filter. It could very well be the fuel pump is going out and that is a major fix for most drivers.
Do search in this subforum on fuel filter and test fuel pump.
