Here's a pic of my mechanical gauge after 30mins of idle in the driveway I wrapped a plastic bag around it an stuffed some foam under it to lock it to the cowling.

As a previous post states, the temp "gauge" sending unit is located on the passenger side cylinder head, but the temp "sensor" should be located left of the thermostat on the intake. This is what the ECM reads... Hope this helps.

I heard that you can calibrate the temp gauge by added a resistor in-line from the sending unit. Anyone had an experience with this?

The sending unit is just a resistance to ground circuit so it definitely can be altered with the addition of a resistor, but only in one direction. I wouldn't start modifying things until you find the source of the inaccuracy. Could be in the wiring or it could be in the gauge itself. Stock gauges are not all that accurate.

I am probably going to keep the mechanical gauge just don't know were to put it. Any ideas?

Update: Here's the final mount for the temp gauge. I got a nice line on the gauge thru the wheel.
