I am almost 100 percent sure that i will need a new compressor, but none the less im looking for some help on it before i do it. When i turn the ac on we get a clicking noise coming from the clutch, now i am a mechanic and the noise i hear sounds to me like the bearing and clutch are going. Then my buddies who are mechanics tell me the car is from 94 and that since it was r12 i believe that the noise is normal. i told them it was retrofitted so i believe im on that r134a status. But non the less that noise is bothering me its not stop just a clicking noise and i want to know if anyone else had this problem or what but the fittings for the compressor is 10 bucks and 150 for the compressor. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Welcome from Kansas! I have replaced a few A/C systems over the years and what you have described could be simply low on refrigerant, the clutch is going out, or the system is low on oil (oil charge). Good luck to you.
