Default ABS Issue

I'm having an issue that hopefully someone can help me out with, currently i have both the abs and parking brake light on and stays on all the time. The brake pedal is harder than ususal when stopping and the abs definitly doesnt work because i had to slam the brakes one time and the wheels locked up the the car started to skid. i've never troubleshooted an abs system before, but i am familar with the braking system. where should i start my troubleshooting for the abs system. any help is appreciated.

this is in reference to my other post about the engine stalling. since i scanned the computer for engine codes, i also scanned for the abs codes, i got 4 different sets of codes and all related to some sort of short circuit to the control module and for the backup light. im beginning to think that a short is whats causing all these problems in my car.
