Default ABS light / no shift help.

'94, 4WD, W

Seems like I've joined the club on this one too. Got gas in the truck today (why does it always break down AFTER I put gas in it?) and when I pulled out of the gas station the ABS lights came on and it wouldn't shift past 2nd. Spedo doesn't work, but it hasn't in years, intermittently anyway about 15% of the time.

Searching here and elsewhere I see the VSS is often the culprit. Elsewhere I read about troubleshooting to see what end your trouble was, the VSS or the DRAC. I unhooked the DRAC, testing the purple/white & green/black wires. While driving I have steady even voltages increases, up to about 15vAC or so. I didn't go any faster, so I don't know how high it would go.

Now assuming what I did was right, I'm thinking the VSS is working. I'd hate to think the DRAC is bad. That's not a cheapie "buy and try" part. The info I read was real limited though, will a bad DRAC cause the shifting/ABS issues, or just the speedo not to work? (What I read was vague and wasn't real clear. Driving with the DRAC plugged in is no different than with it unplugged.)

So I guess I'm hoping someone can shed more light on it. Like "Your VSS can still be bad" or "it could also be…".

I've never loved and hated a vehicle so much as I do this truck, but this year its spent more time broke down than running.

Got a used DRAC off Ebay for a surprisingly decent price. It came today, I put it in and so far so good. ABS light is off and she's shifting.

I'm still fuzzy on the jumpers. The code on the one I got is not the same as the stock one. From what I gather, this will make the speedo read wrong (if/when it works).

Now I'm wondering; do I change the jumpers to match the one I have? Is the jumper configuration the only difference between the codes, or is there more to it than that? (If I change the jumpers, will it still be wrong)

And I still don't know if it's a DRAC or VSSB. One source says one thing, and another contradicts it.
