Default AC not wanting to work!

OK guys lets start off by saying hey, and this is my first post here. I have a 88 blazer with the 4.3, 2 door 2 WD. For some reason the AC doesn't want to work unless we put our foot in it and then if it drops below 2000 RPM then the AC cuts off again. It wants to come on but it wont unless we put our foot into it. And if this matters, it has 170,000 miles, original motor.

Thanks

Probably what it is, is the clutch assembly on the front of the compressor. Had the same issue on my father's95 Silverado. What you can do is go down to your local parts store and get the whole clutch assembly and rent a tool to remove it and you should be able to replace it. The assembly essentially unbolts from the front of the compressor pulley and the new one just goes right in its place. Should get ya runnin in no time.
