Default high idle and not wanting to shut off

I'll start off by saying that my blazer has a carbed 350 in it.
Now then, when I got off work at 1am, I went to leave and my truck was idling at like 1500 rpms. I thought it might have just been because it hadn't been ran in a minute and was still cold, but now I am pretty sure that isn't why.
It kept idling between 1500 and 2000 rpms the whole way home, even after warmed up. When I got home, I went to shut it off and it kinda dieseled (tried to stay running). It sputtered for a minute with the key out and then made some sort of "sigh" sound. I even started it back up to figure out what it was and when I shut it off, it did the same thing! I have never had it do it before, nor have I had any other car do that before.
I don't know what it is. I have to be at work at 7am so I will just see what happens. I will post again when I get home and let you know how it worked.

Any ideas on why it is doing that?
We had quite a bit of rain tonite, but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

It still is idling at 2k. I sprayed around the whole intake and carb with carb cleaner to see if I had a leak, but nothing. I even put a brand new carb on it thinking that it was just pouring gas into the engine. That didn't even help at all. I double checked the timing and it is still at 0 degrees. I even tried to adjust the timing, but it didn't help much.

Well....the way I'm thinking...the only way to have hesistation on the dying, is either through 1) a bad ign. switch/control module/whatever else is in that system, or 2) you're still getting power to the fuel pump/FPR/injectors/whatever else controls fuel flow.

SO...I'd be curious as to what your voltage readings are across the battery with the engine 1) running, 2) dying/hesitating to die, and 3) off. I would think you would have to have a short to a pump/fpr to keep giving power, or a ground problem. Check the all those wires at the battery (but shouldn't a voltage test indicate a short/ground issue?)

Well, I had a buddy come over and take a look at it. After trying a few different things, WE FIGURED IT OUT!!!. The choke was keeping the throttle from returning all the way. We loosened the choke thermostat and adjusted it and now it idles about 7-800 rpms.

I tried to reply to check the choke adjustment, but kept on getting a 'connection has been reset' error.

Glad you got it fixed!
