Advice - 1993 Blazer
Hi There...i would really appreciate any advice on my situation. I own a 1993 Chevy Blazer. It's a Tahoe LT, S10. V6, 4.3l Vortec Engine. Only 114k. It is super super clean as far as the body and the interior go. 4X4, power everything. Super clean leather interior, rear defroster on back window, a/c, everything works.Brand new $500 tires. However, it has started putting out clouds of white smoke. My mechanic said either cracked block or head gasket. He put a jug of blue devil in it, ran it for 40 mins no more smoke. Changed the oil to see if any moisture in oil and none found. It's been a couple of weeks now since, and it's still blowing white smoke. Being a woman I was horribly taken advantage by a slimy used car dealer who milked every penny out of me for this, $6000!!!
Anyways, my question, what is the best way for me to get as much money back as I can out of this, considering it's present condition? Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated. I would also be open to trade for a 4x4 pickup. thanx

Does it run ok still? Just drive it til it blows. Had a escort with a blown head gasket and drove that for a year till trans went. But with a bad motor you'd be lucky to pull a grand out of that truck. I b ought my 93 with a crappy trans for 350$

Does it only smoke on start-up? are you sure its white smoke? Are you losing any oil? These engines have a problem with the valve guide seals. My seals are bad [read: NON EXISTANT] and puffs smoke on start-up. It looks white, but has a slight blue tint to it. It usually goes away with in 2 miles of startup. Where are you located? If youre near reno, nevada, I would love to check out the truck in person.
I know this is bad advice, but drive it anyways. Keep a close eye on the oil level, and if you need to replenish the oil level often, and no water is mixing into it, best bet is it is the valve guide seals. Make sure youre not leaking any oil too.
Good luck, and keep us updated

mine does the same thing but only on start up. if the smoke smells sweet then u are burning coolent leaking from the head or from the heater hose.

I'd keep it. That truck is a beauty.
Find a reputable mechanic, there are ways to find out if it's a head or a gasket... or something else. DON'T go to a GM dealership.

thank you so much for everybody's responses, much appreciated.
To answer some of the questions. It starts right up, new battery, there is a slight crunch sound for 2 secs which mechanic said is starter, so probably needs a new one. Once it has started and idling, smoke that comes out is minimal and white, but once i start revving the motor cloud of smoke gets bigger and whiter. No oil is leaking, I keep checking levels and it is staying full. Mechanic drained oil to look for moisture and found none. I really haven't been driving it that much, I'm wondering if I should drive it more a little each day, to see what smoke does. Like I said before, mechanic put in Blue Devil and said that if there were any small cracks in motor that should seal it up.
Being that I put so much money into it I really would like to get something for it. Wondering what is the most you think I could get out of this...like i said the body and interior is super super clean. I really don't know how popular Blazers are, wondering if there is a chance of someone out there who would want a clean body and working transmission, surely that should be worth something? Once it's running it runs fine, no problem.
perhaps, i should list it for sale/trade in the blazer forum, what are the chances someone has a motor around that is looking for a clean body and tranny?
well, thanx for all the advice, again much appreciated..

depending on how long ago you bought it, you should be covered under the lemon law........ try and get your money back from the guy you bought it from....

I definitely agree with the last guy. If it was recently bought, call the seller on it, especially since you paid $6 thousand for it.

$6k for a '93 vehicle? Who did you buy it from and how long ago did you buy it?
