Default Along came a spider (injector)

Done:

I have been wanting to do this project since I bought this blazer over a month ago. I just got some tax money back so it was time to throw down the 177 bucks for the reman spider injector. The guy I bought this blazer from said he had a shop replace the inlet and return lines, you can see where they were leaking. I know he was tell me the truth because he had the old parts in the blazer when I bought it. So, I was expecting to see fuel leaking on the regulator side when I opened it up. It looks like the regulator was holding pressure but who knows. It might be too early to tell but the gas gauge isn't going down as fast with the new unit installed. Should know by weeks end if there is a change in my MPG.

One thing I noticed that i wasn't prepared for was all the carbon and crap build up in the poppet holes. I replaced the new poppets in the same location where the old ones were, otherwise the locking groove was full of crap. in hindsight, I would have a small round brush that would fit the hole and do some cleaning. I just made sure, extra time spent they were locked in and wouldn't back out. Total time under the hood was around 3 hours.

In the last picture you can see the new MSD coil. I figured since i had to remove the coil for this project might as well give it an upgrade. Over all the engine response is cleaner and the idle isn't as rough, used to hunt.

In that next to the last picture it looks like your EGR is or has been leaking out the gasket on the left side..may be just dirt, but it looks like exhaust to me.

just curious, what are those half moon pieces near the center lower in take manifold bolts? there is one on each side. also did you do a fuel pressure check to make sure you have the correct fuel pressure?

those half moons are drainage holes, where the gas runs into the crankcase in the event of a gas leak.

are you sure? it looks like debris that just happen to fall there... and why would you want the gas to go into the engine oil???? it would dilute the oil and cause a bearing to spin

ffox - you were being sarcastic right? Yes, fuel will run down there, but please dont tell me you believe GM actually put them there for that purpose!

Lol, hey guys, as far as I know I'm telling the truth. I know it is hard to believe GM would do anything right, but sometimes they do accidentally slip up and do it..

Nope, Bigdaddy it's not debris, it's holes, it looks like half moons because they're machined out, sort of like cups. If you have a bad enough gas leak you sure don't want it to stay in the intake, all it could do there is explode..And you're right, if you have a leak there it does dilute the oil. if the leak is very bad you should change your oil, probably should anyway, with any kind of leak there.

I could be wrong about this, and I'm sure if I am somebody is going to let me know. Hahahaha.

Ok, you guys got me curious so I went looking..It turns out I was not 100% right on that, sort of..The gas is routed to the 2 center intake ports in case of a leak. But if it's bad enough it will still end up in the oil. The rest of the information just happened to be there so I copied it too.

The guy I bought this blazer from said he had just recently replaced the EGR, so it could be from that or it could be from my wild WD40 can spraying the throttle linkage and spring?

The more I think about this it seems whomever did the nut kit repair did that as a lessor of two evils - cost. It appears my MPG is getting better so it also seems that CPI unit was leaking on the nut kit side. Could have been one or both poppet lines that bend over the supply/return lines. The center poppet is right next to the line, I can see this poppet line failing. But who knows, I put the old unit in the box and said "where's my $59 core charge" lol. I am still amazed how there could be 177 bucks worth of parts in a reman unit?

I saw in another post where someone had a leak in one of the tubes that go over the supply lines, it seems it wore a pinhole in it. He said he put a piece of rubber between them. That's what I'll do the next time I have it apart..The engineers must have had one of their pet monkeys design that.

I got one of those re manufactured units from Amazon, same price $177, didn't work right out of the box..the injector solenoid unit was clogged. I replaced it with the one out of my old unit. And they had the pressure set at 54, I turned it up to 65. Works great. I never turn in my old units, They've got lots of good parts on them..All you need is a couple of tamper resistant torx bits..a t-10 to adjust the pressure regulator, and a T-15 to remove the solenoid.
Should NEVER have to buy another unit.
