FlatTopFoley has a little shameless behavior in the past
Default CEL on a 86 blazer+Update on another problem

We got a 86 4x4 blazer that is throwing up a check engine light. How would we go about getting the code for it?

EDIT: Any rundowns of how to change a oil pan gasket on this truck?

Sig says 96, but thread says 86... The 96 will require a code reader. An 86, just follow the directions on TroubleCodes.net.

Being a 4wd will make it interesting to change the pan gasket regardless of whether it is an 86 or a 96.

that sounds great. flattop was filling in for me and my blazer because i was at my grandparents beach house and was stranded out there with my 86 blazer. it was weird because my check engine light came one and all of a sudden my oil pressure dropped so i pulled over to 711 and noticed thay my blazer was hemorrhaging oil. so im guessing it was the oil pan gasket that went out on it. but im not 100% sure.

It is definitely not a common thing for the oil pan gasket to just blow out... Not outside the realm of possibility, but there are a lot of other things that can just blow out. The oil cooler lines being one of them. This is where I would focus my attention.

i didnt realize that the 86 model with the 2.8l had oil cooler lines? i know the 4.3l models do we had to change them on flattops 96 s10. if i did have them would they be in the same general area as the 4.3?
