Default fuel guage accuracy?

Welp, mines always seemed to be a little off. Ive got the analog cluster. Tonight i put in 40 bucks worth. which was like 11.6 gallons. According to the vin decoder ive got a 20 gal tank. The blazer was at the mark before empty, after the 40 it was a tiny bit above the mark before the full tank mark. Makes me wonder if the other 8-9ish gallons is just the "top off" of the tank. Ive never tested my tanks capacity by letting it run out. Its not worth killin my pump over it.

I wonder if i still have 6-7 gals left at the low mark,or if the gauge starts to move after a certain amount after full.

Ive always noticed after it reaches past half tank,it falls pretty fast. Like 60 miles ish until it looks like its about out. before half mark it takes forever to drop. I do indeed have a aftermarket sender.

There's a certain amount of variation with the fuel gauges. I bought a '93 Sonoma pickup back in February. Right after I bought it my wife drove it around for a few errands and didn't put any gas in it. I started it up the next day and noticed the gauge was slightly above empty. I headed for the gas station and had to push it the last 500' to get it into the gas station because it ran out of gas. Now I never let it get below a quarter tank before I refill it.
