Default Fuel light question.

I just purchased a 92 S10 blazer and the fuel guage or sender is not functioning , it sits at half tank no mater what (something to work on in warmer weather). Anyway, does anyone know if the fuel light still functions even though the guage does not?

Does it have a fuel light ?

My guess would be no, but I am clueless right now.

Ok, I looked around and this seems to be a common somewhat $$$$ issue.
I'm happy with the estimating with the odometer thing, but don't know what the average mpg are.
It has the 4.3 vortec and about 1640000 miles on it.
I'm guessing 12 - 15mpg

Correct me if I'm wrong

mileage depends on your driving habits and weather conditions + road conditions...

Your model year, you might be able to replace only the in tank sending unit...

lets say 65 deg average temp, smooth pavement, no lead foot.
auto tranny, moderate stop and go, not much highway driving.

I would guess about 15mpg. To find out take your trip meter to 200mi and fill the tank then figure your gas mileage for each tankfull, then figure at an average 16gal tank how far you dare take it...I have been doing this with my '00 and have had a couple of times when my mpg did not line up with my expected mileage and bingo dead on the side of the road...so keep at least a 2gal gas can with you so on that day that you are not close to a gas station and if you run out you have that spare with you...
