Default hard to describe, help with air flow tube inside dash

With the small panel inside the glove box removed and the factory radio out, I today saw some kind of tube that connects to a box (LOL I know great description). I know it has to do with air flow, but not sure exactly where it's directing it.

The 'tube' is wrapped in foam and has a square piece that attaches to the 'box', but it's not attached. I can't get a good enough look to see how it attaches, whether it clips in or was supposed to be permanently attached. I THINK I see some kind of yellow dried adhesive around the connecting piece but not 100% that's what it is.

So..... hopefully someone has had their dash apart or at least looked behind the glove box and knows what I'm talking about

How do those pieces connect?
