Default Headlight conversion kit

Well, my birthday is in a few days and for my birthday I wanted to do a headlight conversion kit because the stock halogen bulbs are not bright enough. Has anyone here done this before?

I'm assuming I would need the heavy duty headlight harness.

If that is the case is it very hard to install?

Where would be a good place to buy the headlight housing and bulbs?

So would something like
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1982-...Q5fAccessories

have everything I would need to do it?
Also was wiring it all up very easy?

edit: I'm also running the stock alternator would I need a new alternator to handle all the extra power from the headlights?

i ran those lights on a 94 pathfinder and it only had a 80 amp alternator and it was fine. hids only use more power on start up after they are on they use less power then halogens

thats a good point. some of those cheaper hid kit bulbs dont last as long or if u get a bad bulb u have no way of replacing the bulb only

If you want high quality get the Hella HB2 Conversions and a wiring harness. The Hella conversions come in two flavors DOT Approved and "E Code". I have purchased mine from http://www.autobarn.net/helhigperhal.html or http://www.autobarn.net/heleurhal20h.html and I purchased the wiring harness off of ebay.

I've never bought after market headlight kits before so I'm not really sure what is the best route to go. But I want the kind where you could replace the bulb is either of the ones you guys linked that way? Most the wiring kits I've seen say H4 what's the difference in H4 and HB2? What kind of wiring harness would I need to hook it up and a lot of the kits I've seen have ballasts what do they do?

The two I linked from Auto Barn will plug right into your existing wiring harnes. The advantage of the wiring harness is to power up the headlights using power directly from the battery via relay's and therefore take the load off your headlight switch. Everthing still works the same as far as control from your headlight switch. The Hella's both use replaceable bulbs. The HB2 (DOT Approved) is less wattage then the H4. (The E-Code will have a little more power but a different beam pattern for european roads.) You do not need a harnes with any of the coversions the bulbs will plug right into the existing vehical harness.
