Hello
I have spent some time reading, and I know this is my first post but this is driving me crazy. I have a 1994 s10 blazer with electronic 4x4 shift. It worked last winter and so I didn't think about it. this year I tried, and of course it didn't work. In drive, park or reverse it wont shift into 4hi and the lights on the switch don't blink. I took it into a shop and they said it was the tccm, so they replaced it. It worked once(!) and then returned to the same thing. I can get it into 4wd low in neutral but have trouble shifting out. so I took it back and they said the encoder motor was bad, at this point the bill was a $1000, so I decided to do it myself and have some resolution... well today I installed it in my driveway, took it for its first drive and of course still does the exact same thing. I am about ready to burn this thing.. can anyone think of whats going on????
thanks
ok so update, just reset the tccm fuse no change.. Could the switch be responsible for all of this? where can I get a new one are they available from lordco?

So it has a new encoder motor and a new TCCM and it still doesn't work? Have you tried pulling the codes from the TCCM (check out the thread by error_401 in the Tech Article Index link in my signature)?

What I would do is crawl under your truck and unplug the switch from the encoder motor itself ( the one that has a bolt holding it on ) then while its still unplugged disconnect your battery and go inside make yourself a sandwich then get a can of WD40 spray the plug lightly to make a good connection then replace tighten it up good, then connect battery and it should work at least for a week or 2 then you will probably have to repeat.. see that plug has grease inside it from the factory (too help keep it from rusting and for a good connection) and after years and years it turns hard and it causes a bad connection. There is a fix somewhere on this forum where somebody actually dissembled the plug and cleaned all of the old grease out and glued it all back together, but I'm too lazy for all of that, so I just pay attention to the weather and when its calling for snow I just go outside and spray the plug down with some WD40 to make a good connection and its never failed me so far.
I'm sure this will fix your problem!
Good Luck, I'm sorry that you bought a new TCCM and encoder motor, when it probably wasn't the problem all along. hope this works for you!

hello
No I haven't tried doing the codes, I figured the shop would have, but I can do that tomorrow.. The thing I am focused on is that still wont shift into 4w hi!!
I just had the connector out as I replace the encoder motor. I will disconnect the battery tomorrow and leave it for 30 min or so. Since it solidly shifts into 4w lo I can rule out any vacuum problems cant I?
Also when I installed the new encoder motor I had to move the drive hex on the transfercase to the upwards position to install the new encoder motor. Does this mean the transfercase was sitting in 4wd? It would make sense that it goes 2whi then 4whi then 4whlo.. Does this matter did I do something wrong?
thanks

Check for codes FIRST! The TCCM may already be trying to tell you what it thinks the problem is, but if you reset the battery, that will all be gone.
