i think it is the starter but dont know how to tell i have power but will not start[]

 

does it turn over? what kind of noise is it making?

 

it dont make any noise or turning over

 

So it doesn't do anything at all? It could be as simple as the battery.

 

every thing as lights turn on the radio worksi got a jump and still nothing

 

usually when the battery goes it will make a rapid clicking noise if you try to turnover the key. it might be the starter.

 

no clicking noise thats the 2 thing i checked and then i cryed first chevy in family and my frist truck how hard is it to check starter

 

Well, you said that you hear no noise, so it's probably the solenoid that is bad. Connect a jumper cable from the + terminal to the "S" terminal on the selonoid. If your starter is working then the problem is your ignition switch, or neutral start switch. If the starter still won't work, you need to remove the starter/solenoid, as it is probably bad. You can hook the positive lead of a voltmeter to the starter motor terminal of the solenoid and then connect the negative lead to a ground. If you can get the engine to turn over, you should be reading 9 volts or more if the engine is cranking at normal speed. If you are reading 9 volts or more but the engine is turning slowly then the starter motor is bad. If you are reading less than 9 volts and are cranking slowly then the solenoid contacts are probably burned out. Hope that helps you.

year and engine model will help significantly. but try taking a heavy ratchet and smacking the side of the starter and solenoid to see if u cant loosen it up. sometimes, especially in cold weather things sieze up. plus starters usually just go without warning where as the solenoid or its connections usually fail intermitently before going completely.
