High idle + check engine light
this dont sound like your problem but i had a bent throtle cable keeping my rpms low and even if i goosed it it would perform like i was at half pedle MAYBE your could be bent keeping the throtle open. that wouldnt explane after its warm its fine deal well good luck
I am having a similar issue on my 94 CFI. Idle is really high and it feels like the brakes are having a hard time holding the car back. I'll try and replace the throttle position sensor and see what it does. If that doesn't work i'll test the O2. Any other suggestions on this problem would be great. I'd like to get out of replacing 8 parts for one issue if I can.
Only thing that is a bit different with mine is that it will always idle high hot or cold. Check engine will come on very very rarely when the idle drops off drastically when I'm stopped at a light. And it will go off as soon as I start moving again. But as I said that is rare. Only happens once a week or so.
I'll keep you all posted with results. But any other suggestions are certainly welcome.
Thanks in advance.

In your case funky, I would look for a vacuum leak. After running the engine, pull the vacuum line and check valve off of the brake booster. If you do not hear a rush of air being sucked into the booster, then you either have a bad check valve or you have a bad booster. From your description of also having a hard time braking, I would believe you have a bad booster that is allowing air to be pulled into the intake, bypassing the throttle. This would cause both of the symptoms you are experiencing (high idle and poor brake assist performance).
Just to keep you guys posted. I fixed the idle problem last night. I first took of the whole air box assembly and noticed that the rubber connecting to the Throttle body was in pretty bad shape. I got some after market parts and fabricated a nice piece and drilled a hole for the sensor that fits in there. I was hoping that was the problem. Fired it up and still the same realy high idle.
Then after much head scratching and vac tube checking I desided to unplug the throttle body sensor. No change when I unplugged it so I figured it was bad. I plugged it back in and the idle dropped down to normal. I cleaned off the terminals and now its working fine. It that kind of repair that you hate and love. Hate because it took 3 hours to figure it out but love it cause it cost you nothing.
Thanks for all the help on this one guys.
And if anyone else has a similar issue learn from me
Check the sensor terminals first.
