Default Looking for 1984 S10 Blazer parts

Howdy. I'm not having any luck locating a fuel module. My mechanic says I need a fuel pump. He says if he replaces just the fuel pump it will probably mess up the fuel gauge and I need the whole fuel module consisting of the sending unit and the in-tank fuel pump as a matched set. He said something about ohms and impedance matching or something, but my eyes had already glazed over and rolled back in my head.

First, thanks in advance for your help. Second, is he blowing smoke up my skirt? And 3rd does anybody have a line on where I might locate one such critter. They appear to be as plentiful as unicorns. I've tried all my usual parts places and came up dry.

Thank you,
Terry

If the fuel gauge is working properly now, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't continue to work properly after replacing just the pump. It's nice to replace the whole fuel pump module if you can get one but, if you can't, there's nothing wrong with replacing only the pump.

The fuel sensor and the fuel pump are independent of each other. I installed a new fuel tank and installed a new fuel pump on the assy. At the same time. I installed a new fuel sock (Filter) at the bottom of the pump. Look at Rock Auto for your vehicle. The complete assy. was not available for my 89 S15 Jimmy either. I would buy either AC Delco or Delphi pump.as they are known to be reliable and long lasting. Are you sure that the 84 has an in tank fuel pump. I would question your mechanic's knowledge with this repair as well

According to rock auto you have a mechanical fuel pump. The pump should be located on the front of the block held in with 2 bolts. Easy to change yourself and has nothing to do with the fuel gage. The pump is driven off of the camshaft so there is no pully to remove. Remove 2 bolts and fuel lines, remove pump, clean gasket surface, Install pump with new gasket, Install 2 bolts and the fuel lines and you are done.
