Default major W-code pain!

hey guys, i'm having a MAJOR issue with the W-code in my brothers Dime.

it's a '93 W-code, and it's in my younger brothers Summer truck.

a little FYI to get you up to speed on the project. the truck was taken apart @ Christmas (it's getting a make-over), and the only thing removed from the engine (which would affect the running of it) was the distributor & upper/lower intake.

now the engine has been in the truck since '98, and has run like a Swiss watch forever. when we were taking the intake off, we couldn't get the hoses disconnected from the FPR/spider assembly, and the hoses broke. no problem, we just ordered one from Injectorwhse.com-this is the only new part to be replaced on an engine that was running fine-other than getting a full tune-up (new premium Blue Streak cap/rotor, Champion copper truck plugs, MSD 8mm heli-core wires)

the problem(s) is...........the truck won't idle properly-or for very long when it does. it sputters somewhat when you first touch the throttle (say up to 1100/1200 RPM). it also has a slight miss in the upper register (2500 to 5000 RPM).

i've pulled all the plugs (twice) to inspect them, and they all look fine.

and YES, the timing is correct..............i've had the distributor out a few times to verify!

anyone have a good idea as to what the problem might be? we're kinda pressed for time, since his first show to debut the new work is on the 18th (next Sunday), and it still has to go back to the body shop (fix their f**k-up on a fender!) and to the detailers for a really good cleaning.

thanks for any/all of your input guys.

check egr valve make sure its not stuck or pluged also vacuum lines that go to tcase and the 4wd stuff up front and if the oil smells like gas it could be the injector

did you even read what's going on?

not anywhere did i mention that this truck was 4WD.

as for the EGR..............lets just say that the whole engine has been disassembled (minus the block & heads), and everything has been cleaned & painted. and if it was aluminum, it was polished & plated.

i built this truck from the ground up almost 10 years ago, and it's never given any issues 'til now. since the injector warehouse isn't open on the weekends, i really can't talk to them about the injector assembly being faulty, but i'm really not sure it is, since both the plugs & oil don't smell like fuel.

"snap @ them?"

do you not think after reading my OP, that i would've mentioned if it was a 4x4 truck?

no offence (to you or any & all members) but i thought the OP was pretty informative.

so now that we ALL know it's not a 4WD application, and so i don't have to be accused of being "snappy" anymore, does anyone have any probable thoughts on this?

When you replaced the injector assembly, did you check the wiring harness carefully for arcing/burning or looseness?

@ ohsofly; that was one of the things i check when the engine came apart (better to fix/replace before it gets painted/polished, right.)

@ ohsofly & Leeann; the plug was mint, seal was mint, fit together like a nitrile glove. there wasn't any play in the plug, so no, there wasn't any arcing.

i'm finding my way back to a possible faulty injector/FPR assembly. i kow we ordered a BN one, but everything else is checking out proper.

gonna swap it out & use the old one (which was working fine to begin with) see what happens.

also gonna double check the pressure as well. just to be sure.

well, since Thomas seems to be having the same issue (kinda sorta), and i found his posting just a few minutes ago...............i'm just gonna post a link to my post in his thread, since we know we're not allowed to double post.

anyone that might be thinking the same thing................or different?

lets hear your ideas.

***UPDATE***

ok, so we got the upper intake off, tried to see what kinda fuel was spraying out of the poppets.................but absolutely nothing came out!

yes the injector was plugged in, and the engine was turned over for a few cranks while i checked 3 poppets. each poppet was checked alone, and the engine was cranked a few times for each check.

shouldn't this thing spray even with the engine apart?
