New member, failed emissions high HC at idle.
Hey, thanks for viewing my thread. As i said before I am a new member using my brother's login, I bought his 1990 s10 blazer 4.3 a couple of months ago. In an attempt to get the title transfered into my name I failed emissions. The HC (PPM) idle limit is 220, I failed with a 580. The spark plugs were changed out for the proper AC Delco last summer, and just a few months back the catalytic converter was replaced due to it rattling. Any suggestions on this would be much appreciated!
NOTE; I am not the most mechanically inclined person in the world, but I am slowly learning. -Elliot |
Search for how to egr and do some reading in the threads. Go to Jiffy Lube or one of those places and get a fuel system cleaner. (Jiffy Lube around here guarentees theres).
Also, google your proplem and read what others have done to correct the problem. |
*Elliot, I have sent you a PM.*

This is James. Ive tested the actuation of EGR valve by pressing it w/ a long screw driver at idle and it'd stumble pretty heavily. I've removed it once and cleaned it like 7yrs ago or s when it was still Elliots truck while i was having the engine swapped in my 740iL. I cleaned it back then because it has a terrible stumbling issue and was referred to clean the EGR, but in the end it turned out to be a slowly failing fuel pump. Before I gave the truck back to him, i was averaging 16-18mpg, even towing a trailer. He's averaging 12mpg, so clearly something failed recently.
