My 89 S15 Jimmy 2wd, 2 DR, has 481,000 miles on the Odometer. Lately it has been running a little rough and dying at red lights while in gear. I suspected the Injectors (TBI), the EGR valve or possible vacuum leak.
I replaced the distributer with a Cardone New not rebuilt, Replaced the EGR valve with AC Delco, Replaced the thermos switch in the air cleaner, re-placed the injector connectors and fixed vacuum leaks on the air cleaner hose. I purchased all parts from Rockauto.
I did the EGR valve replacement first but I also fabricated a blank off plate first to make sure none of the issues I was having was due to the EGR valve leaking exhaust gas at idle.
The car ran great with the EGR blocked off but would through a code, so after 1 day of running I removed the block off plate and the car runs great. No codes. I also re-timed the car after all was said and done.

Ah makes sense with that kind of mileage. Still good to hear as I plan on keeping this for a long time. According to the service records I got, mine had the tranny replaced once in 03, then was rebuilt in 2011.
Picked it up cheap as currently has no 2nd or 4th gear. Hoping the Corvette servo and B&M shift kit I have sitting at home will fix it for now. Otherwise I'll either be rebuilding, or replacing my tranny too.

Sounds like a good plan. My replacement engine is a GM Goodwrench long block which I did first. After the transmission went out for the third time (2 Rebuilds) I installed a GM Goodwrench Transmission. Both have been problem free.

I just finished installing a G80 Gov Lock Differential I picked up a the junk yard. But I did not realize that my original diff. with 3:08 Gear Ratio is on a series 2 case where as the G80 is a series 3 case and I could not transfer my ring gear. I ended up buying a new ring and pinion gear set that is compatible with the series 3 Case. Motive makes a 3:08 Thin Gear Set that is meant for the series 3 case. I am breaking in the Ring and Pinion right now. I did 3 heat runs of 10 miles and a 30 min cool down. Now I am keeping the speed below 60 MPH for 100 miles. I will not tow anything until after 500 miles and that is when I will replace the diff gear oil.

Good feedback on parts. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Was messing with my trans all weekend. Took me to 2 days to install a shift kit that I used to be able to do in 2 hrs, but alas those were the good ol' days when I had access to lift.
Going to try my Corvette Servo and Pin this week since the shift kit didn't bring back 2nd, and 4th. Pretty sure I plugged in the solenoids backward too, since it now starts out in 3rd, but can manually put in 1st. I'll check out the Goodwrench Tranny if the servo/pin don't fix the band engagement.
Good info on the locker too, I haven't thought about any of that yet, as I'm just trying to get mine road worthy first.
