Default Odometer does not work

I have a 89 s-10 4.3 Gen 1 riding on 33in tires. The engine was replaced about a year ago and the odometer no longer works. I think it stopped working when the engine was swapped. It reads 186,000. I am very cheap and I like to do things myself. How would I go about troubleshooting the issue?

i think with the 89s it should be a cable driven speedometer. if your speedometer works and your odometer and its cable driven then the odometer itself is stuck or broke
