Default Oil pan gasket without removing engine

My oil pan gasket is leaking. The book method in to remove the engine. I saw a video that they changed the gasket by raising the engine enough to remove the old gasket and install the replacement. I am planning on attempting this. My plan is to remove the engine mount bolts, remove the front and middle exhaust hanger bolts, remove the transmission mount bolts and attach my engine hoist and raise the engine, remove oil pan bolts, drop the pan as much as I can, remove the old gasket and install the new gasket. I think the only sticking point is getting the new gasket fished around the oil pickup tube. Has anyone done this and have any advice or something I am not thinking about" The first step will be to drain the oil from the pan.
