Default Parking brake problems (83' s10blazer)

alright so i replaced a master cylinder yesterday getting my new (to me blazer) ready for road. got good brakes now. and spent a good portion of my day today replacing the front parking brake cable.... NEVER wanna do that again. specially in the yard on gravel with 20mph winds below freezing...

but anyways. i got ALOT more pedal now. it holds much better than it was. i could push my truck on flat ground with the pedal pushed down. now it holds on small hills.

so ill carry a brick with me till i get some more cash. but while checking brakes yesterday the rear shoes were worn down quite a bit, on the bottom half of the drum, would that help with the holding strength of the parking brake if we replace those aswell? what about the dial on the botth half of the drum, some kind of adjuster?

More than likely what happens is that drum (self adjuster) is frozen. Take it off and take it apart. It should be 3 pieces. Clean the crap out of it and be sure to use some never seize on the threads and the end cap part. Or just buy new ones since they are cheap. If the shoes and worn then they won't be able to properly seat against the drum.
