Default Possessed Windshield Wipers!?

I don't know if this is a common problem, or if it's just me, but my windshield wipers seem to have a mind of their own. I have an '89 S10 4x4, and at random times the wipers will go up and back down quickly. It happens most often when I use the turn signal. Could it be a problem with the handle?
I know next to squat about electrical components, but I checked the ground on the wiper motor (which I've had a problem with before) and it's fine.
When I turn them on, there's no problem, they'll go on just fine at each speed. It's just annoying when I'm driving and out of the blue they spring up. Anybody have this problem before or have any ideas?

There is a TSB on this issue that the dealership can install to fix. It is called Phantom Swipe. I have an 89 Jimmy that I purchased new and I tried everything I could think of to correct. It did not get corrected untill I had the dealership to the fix. Here Ok, here is the TSB 902668E May 90 - Intermittent Phantom Wipe (No Driver Input). Like I said I had this done at my local chevy dealer and no more phantom swipe. I believe parts and labor was under $150.00 for the repair. Call your local dealer and give them the TSB number and get a quoteis the TSP.

Ah, thank you very much, I knew I wasn't going crazy!
At the risk of sounding like a total noob, what does TSB mean?
$150 is a bit more than I'm willing to invest to fix this problem right now, so I guess I'll have to live with it for a while, maybe it'll be a birthday present to myself haha.

I did a little more research, and I think I found the part that's supposed to fix the phantom wipe on autopartswarehouse.com for $70. Still a little pricey but when I can afford to buy it, I'll let you guys know if it fixed it or not.

Default Phantom wiper swipe

Hey...Thanks, So it's not evidently just a lever or switch problem then...I'll look into that sometime!

I'm glad you posted this because I am having the exact same thing with my 89 and I thought it was just a loose connection somewhere inside the handle. I get it from turn signals as well as when I hit speed bumps and the like.

You need a new pulse board in the wiper motor. You can get them at any auto parts store.

This is a common problem.
